At the end of 2014 I designed and delivered a wardrobe recessed, so with frames to fit into a niche and 4 very large doors. This is why I felt that the first, also as a “whole”, with hips and legs, and even two drawers, was this one.
It will go away soon in a bedroom of an old farmhouse in the province of Cuneo, to accommodate the clothes of two children.
My artistic imprint is in this closet more than ever: I wanted to style it with a thin top, just like the old country cabinets. I also wanted to lift it off the ground by inserting four wooden cubes as feet. The measures, chosen by the customer, have made it wider than high, and I find that this proportion makes it even more special.
The inside stick to hang coats is old iron as well as the knobs, but I would say that the real highlight of the piece are the two drawers. Initially drawn to be inside a door, I’m glad that in the end they have come out to show themselves in all their particularity. Not so much in shape or materials (here, as in other cases, I thought of galvanized frontal), as for their handles.
I received them as a gift from a supplier of vintage items in France: Nicole Vernet. Not born as handles wardrobe but, as she explained to me in detail, they served to customers of a clothing store in Saint Remy, “Au Bon Coin”, to hang the many bags in case of large purchases.
No piece could be more original than this, in two wardrobe drawers…
Initially I had to color it white, but apparently customers have appreciated it natural. And me too: I decided that as soon as I move in a home not for rent, this will be the closet of my the bedroom….

October 23, 2015You did a wonderful job on this cabinet. I too use to build, but now not so much, so I enjoy seeing what others are making. Look forward to seeing other things you make.
