Sicilian week

Another summer parenthesis in the south of Italy, like the one last year in Puglia and Basilicata. Sicily this year, to take up a bit ‘of energy after winter and attend the wedding of two friends in Scicli.
The period is one of the best times to visit the island: yet few tourists on the beaches, the temperature is very pleasant, and lemons are in their full glory.
As always, in the shortest possible time we tried to see as much as possible, and so our stops have seen protagonists:
Palermo, with its typical markets, the promenade and the hectic life among the city streets. A treat: the Capuchin monastery, with over 8000 mummies on display.

And then down to the south coast, from Agrigento and its Valley of the Temples, Aragona with Macalube, Ragusa, in light stone with its Baroque churches, as well as Scicli, Modica and Noto.
The scale of the Turks, Eraclea Minoa with its mud clay, Sampieri and Pisciotto, the oasis of Vendìcari with the beach Calamosche and, finally, Catania, for the return.
Wonderful scents and colors of the island, including its flavors: fresh fish and lemon, almond pastries, and almond, mulberry and coffee granita … croquettes, “panelle” of chickpeas and tomatoes fragrance….I miss it already. Obviously.
